Our mission is to make equitable life’s work practical and possible for all by co-creating innovative, inclusive, work-based learning, upskilling and reskilling programs and apprenticeships that prepare people for livable-wage employment. With deep respect for youth and individuals experiencing disabilities, or other social and economic challenges, we design pathways that expand opportunity and dignity. We advance this work by developing and publishing open-source tools and work-based learning resources, partnering with apprentice-focused agencies, and implementing emerging apprenticeship programs. Guided by transparency, stewardship, and accountability, we ensure that every solution we create is relevant, accessible, and impactful for edge communities.
Livable Wage Jobs’ technology apprenticeships prepare talent to work with current and emerging technologies at innovative, livable-wage organizations. These apprenticeships emphasize real-world tools and practices. Apprentices learn by doing: contributing to production projects and using collaborative platforms, version control, and modern tech stacks in partnership with community organizations and companies. Our goal is for apprentices to become competitive applicants, participate in on-the-job training with one or more employers, and transition into stable, livable-wage technology careers.
Livable Wage Jobs Apprenticeships include US Department of Labor tech sectors. We have been in the CA Division of Apprenticeship Standards queue and review process for the past two years.
Livable Wage Jobs Lab creates and publishes open source work-based learning at ResearchGate.net and here on the 2 Degree Shift site. All materials are Creative Commons CC BY 4.0 downloads. Print copies are available at the Lulu Press Bookstore at their cost. Selected books are available in English, Spanish, and in ADA versions optimized for braille-based readers.
